james darling is visting after a few years of gigging on cruise ships.. we got to play music yesterday and will do so again on friday... it is nice to reconnect with a friend from the past...

after playing this song friday with james, marisha, and larry, i made some revisions that might help this along a wee bit better.... this is now a revised edition.... thanks for the input larry, marisha and james...

another work in progress.. nico is co-composer on this song for 20%.. he has been very helpful with some harmonic ideas that i think are great.. we played it tonight with larry and marisha for the first time, along with a few originals by everyone - nico, marisha and larry.. i wish you could all hear the song ideas these 3 brought to the session tonight..

 updated feb 14th 2011..changes made to time signature and stuff like that.. this has some 3 and some 4 to it...

possible 8 bar vamp in the middle for drums or? remember these are sibelius files, so they are only a template for taking this to the next level - playing these ideas with people... the tempo on this is 1/4=240 and the idea is an uptempo jazz feel to it rhythmically..

sometimes it feels like life is a long road that has an upward slope to it ongoingly! i think this is how i felt yesterday when i got this idea... you might feel this way too if you can bare listenning to this to the end, lol...

i came up with the first part of the melody while at doug dodds house on thursday night -dec 9th.. he has a wonderful grand piano in his room that inspires one! these are sib files sounds.. the chord sounds are missing from the middle part, but i have figured out the chords that i want..

i know there's a way to make sibelius swing, but without writing triplets into it all, i haven't figured it out! the middle part needs to be swung and it isn't on this version..

i think i have a working chart for this now dec 10th..  i never got formal training for knowing how to write charts for other musicians...  nico and miles have helped sharpen the importance of this..  dec 16th and i've revised this song again..  dec 24th... one can keep working on a tune forever.. that's what i'm doing here....the final part of this sibelius sound bite does not convey the intentions of the chart.. it has a solo section that isn't conveyed properly here...bear that in mind listening to the tail end of this...

upbeat, positive songs are uplifting..

this song was written very recently and i have played it with some friends too which got me to thinking of different ways of arranging it... bottom line is i like this song and it represents something new for me.. it is written in 6/4 time...

this is the first song i actually co-composed with my dear friend nico.. i mostly had an idea and he turned it into magic basically.. i love him for that and more!! we spent the early part of 2010 working together with another good friend nic sheasgreen and the title is based off our friendship with one another...

i plan on doing a smaller ensemble version of this song, but this is the 10 peice ensemble via sibelius notation program...

this is something i wrote summer of 2010 - sib file converted to mp3 - solo section in middle makes for a wee gap in the later part of the song..

this song as with the last one are devoid of drums..   i plan on doing live versions of these songs where i play the drums as opposed to writing songs on sibelius music program... this song has a similar motif to the last one but is a different rhythm and tempo... i dedicated this song to my friend louis devoin... like the slow food movement he is an energy that i benefit from being around and considering with my generally ''fast'' paced approach to everything!
